Experience

I spent nearly two decades at Control4, Snap One, and ADI/Resideo, growing from software engineering into leadership. Most recently, I served as Director of Engineering.

Much of my career has been spent shaping engineering teams: bringing iOS and Android developers together, improving release practices, building teams for new product experiences, and helping struggling teams become effective. I’ve also worked across embedded systems, hardware, cloud, video, and AI-enabled connected-device products.

Building and evolving engineering organizations

The most important work I’ve done hasn’t always been a feature or a product launch. Often, it’s been changing how the organization works.

  • One mobile team, two platforms. I brought separate iOS and Android teams into a single Scrum team to align delivery around a shared product experience.
  • From quarterly releases to every two weeks. I helped move mobile delivery from a release at most once per quarter to a two-week release cadence. That change required improving how the teams planned and shipped software.
  • Building a team for a new GUI platform. I formed the on-screen display (OSD) team for our transition from Flash to Qt. That team later evolved into an OSD and Remote Control GUI team based in Belgrade.
  • Building a self-sufficient Remote Control team. I took responsibility for a struggling team, brought experienced Qt engineers in to mentor and support delivery, made changes to management, and helped the team become independent of that temporary support. I also formed UI-Platform around shared capabilities used by Qt, iOS, and Android.
  • Scaling architecture decisions. I piloted Architecture Decision Records (ADRs) in UI-Platform, expanded them across my organization, and introduced the practice across the on-device software organization through its Principal Engineering Committee.

These examples reflect how I think about engineering leadership: understand the system you inherit, evolve the organization with the people doing the work, and create conditions for sustained delivery.

Enabling edge AI across an existing product ecosystem

Another part of my career has been connecting technologies into practical product systems, including an edge AI initiative across hardware, embedded devices, cloud services, and mobile experiences.

I worked with hardware engineers on adapting an existing Control4 CORE1 controller to support a Hailo AI accelerator. I wrote a driver that employees and beta dealers could install to contribute camera images for model training, with the goal of detecting people, vehicles, and animals across varied conditions and times of day.

I directed the mobile teams to create a History experience showing activity around the home and integrate AI detections into that workflow. When video conversion became expensive, I worked with the Cloud team to move from an Amazon-based processing approach to a custom FFmpeg conversion pipeline, substantially reducing conversion costs.

This work required more than deploying an AI model. It required understanding how data collection, hardware, inference, cloud economics, and the customer experience fit together.

Other selected platform work

AirPlay 2 and HomeKit

Helped lead software integration, validation, certification, and release work across connected-device and streaming-audio platforms. These efforts depended on coordination among embedded software, audio, networking, integration testing, and external technology partners.

Connected-device engineering

Worked across embedded Linux controllers, touch panels, mobile applications, networking, audio/video, and software integrations. I value clear platform ownership and strong working relationships between product and shared engineering teams.

How I approach leadership

A director’s job isn’t to make every technical decision. It’s to develop the people and organization so good decisions happen close to the work.

I describe that approach as an Engineering Operating System: the structure, practices, tooling, and culture that help engineers deliver their best work.
